    Modern Idolatry

    Modern mankind creates more idols than historical man did, but they are just other kinds of idols.  Idols are certainly not new.  The Hebrews created a golden calf to worship when Moses didn’t come back from the mountain as soon as they thought he should.  God had led them out of Egypt.  Yet they didn’t construct a statue to God, but created their own “god” in the form of a golden calf to worship.  The Hebrews consistently went back and forth from worshiping God to idol worship throughout the Old Testament.  They did this for the same reason that people create idols today, they wanted to create something that they…

    Finding Faith

    Faith is a vital part of being a Christian, but it is often misunderstood by Christians and non-Christians alike.  And it is elusive.  It’s a hard concept to grasp.  Many people think just believing in Jesus as Savior is having faith in Him, and while that is part of faith, it is only a small part.  It is essential to believing in God, because before you can accept God, you must first believe He exists.    First, faith needs to be defined.  The writer of Hebrews wrote, ” Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  for by it the elders obtained good…

    For God’s Sake!

    For God’s sake! is an expression that is not used much any more.  And that is a good thing, as it meant  the same as Lucy’s “Good grief, Charlie Brown!”  That is, it meant something quite different than it does in the Bible.  In the Bible the phrase for God’s sake, or for His sake, means that everything is done in heaven and on earth for God’s glory, even our suffering as Christians.  There are two primary reasons for this.  The first is that joy is manifested in creation, that  making something both comes from the creator’s joy and also gives him or her joy.  This will be the topic…
