The LGBT Community v. the Bible

A lot of misconceptions, ill will and accusations have been flung around by all parties to the gay community debate. I thought I’d straighten out some of the problems that are the most common concerning the Christian church and all forms of the homosexual life style. First, gays label Christians as bigots, narrow minded for not accepting alternate life style choices. Gays blame the Christian stance on the people, the Christians themselves, for their rejection of the LGBT community. We need to be more liberal, they say. The error here is that it’s not the people’s personal choice to reject homosexuality, it’s God’s prohibition given to us in the Bible…

    Joy in the Christian Life

Two main misconceptions about joy in the Christian’s life exist. One is that Christianity is a serious and somber religion based on a list of things not to do. The other conflates earthly happiness with spiritual joy. They are not the same thing. Christianity is serious, the most serious thing in our lives. It is deadly serious, but God didn’t intend for His relationship with us to be somber and drab. He created mankind in His own image with a wonderful garden for us to live in forever, and all we had to do was keep up the garden and not eat of a single tree in the midst of…

    The Bible and Abortion

The Bible doesn’t directly address abortion anywhere. There is no Hebrew or Greek word used for it. However, God’s position on abortion is evident from how He addressed other related issues. In addressing these issues it becomes clear that abortion was not an option during the time that the Bible was being written. It simply didn’t happen. True, medical knowledge was rudimentary at best in those days, but God’s position on, and His relationship with us, precludes the removal of a fertilized egg, and the killing of an embryo or a fetus. There are exceptions, of course, and I’ll get to those later. First, God’s fifth commandment is that you…

    Abortion Part Three: The Media

We all are influenced my the media to varying extents. It’s impossible not to be influenced as the media saturates our lives with news and opinions flooding our consciousness from TV, radio, smartphones and the Internet. And these sources influence our thinking more than we realize. The media elite is much more liberal than the public in issues like abortion. The leaders are pro-choice in their views and their outlets, both print and electronic, reflect their views. They would have us believe that we as a nation are mostly pro-choice as well, but we’re not. The large majority of the public is in favor of restrictions on when a woman…

    Abortion Part Two: Political Aspects

The abortion issue has America divided into two primary camps , the pro-choice and pro-life supporters. Both claim to have the facts on their side. And, public opinion effects politicians’ and the courts’ positions far more than it should. Our congress persons, appellate court judges and justices very often base their official position on issues on what the pollsters say will have the best chance of getting them elected or reelected. For example, Al Gore, when a democratic congressman from a conservative district in Tennessee, voted pro-life 84 percent of the time. However, when he was running for president he changed his position to pro-choice. In a March 1, 2000,…
