    The Problem of language

One major consideration in interpreting the Bible is the problem of language. English versions all have errors in translation including the King James Version (KJV). Fundamentalists claim the KJV is the preserved word of God. It isn’t, it’s just a translation and there are errors in translating the Hebrew and Greek. The preserved word of God is the oldest and best manuscripts we have. The Bible was originally written in three languages, Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. A student of the Bible needs to know what the original word was, which definition of a word was intended in a specific passage, and what it meant in context with the verse and…

Taking Control of Your Life during the Corona Crisis

The Covid-19 virus is dominating everyone’s life in the world now. The people who don’t have the virus still have to comply with restrictions and bans on travel and which businesses they can visit. Some cities like New York have banned all nonessential travel. This pandemic is causing people to feel like they have lost control of their lives, and that they have lost a significant portion of their freedom. That is partially true, and partially not. The control and freedom that’s not lost are the most important. First, let’s decide what freedom isn’t. The popular philosophy today claims that a person can do anything that doesn’t harm anyone else.…

The significance of the Corona Virus

The Corona Virus has been called by some as the beginning of the end times, that Christ is coming back very soon. Well maybe, and maybe not. Events preceding the second coming have not been fulfilled yet and won’t be in the near future. One is the rebuilding, or regaining, of the temple in Jerusalem. It will be a while before that happens. But certainly, events leading up to the second coming of Christ are building up. Soon in biblical terms can be centuries rather than months or years. I am asked every time someone claims that the Lord is returning on such and such date if I think He’s…

    Is Easter Real?

Easter, more properly the Ressurection Day, is almost here, and I have two follow-up blogs to this one planned. This week I want to present just one reason why the death, and more importantly the resurrection, of Christ, are real. That evidence is the dramatic change in the personalities of the disciples after Christ rose from the grave. Let’s look at the behavior of the disciples while Jesus was ministering to the people. They had a good idea of who He was and why He came to earth as Jesus. But they didn’t fully understand that He was God incarnate until after seeing Him risen from the grave. When He…

    The Christian’s Responsibility to God

The Christian responsibility to God is not a popular topic. TV evangelists and most ministries avoid talking about it for financial reasons. They want to keep the donations coming in, so they tell their followers just what they want to hear. But they’re not doing you any good by avoiding the topic of responsibility and obligation to God, because it is part and parcel of what constitutes the Christian experience. Everything, in the final analysis, is done for God’s sake, not ours. God tells us throughout the Bible that everything He does and all that we should do was and is and will be done for Him, not us. Even…
